Mom

The bakery lady at the store today told me that I look too young to be the mom of an 18 year old.
I pick up donuts on Sunday mornings for church, and she and I have gotten to know each other some, and as I ordered Hannah's graduation cake this morning she mentioned this. I thanked her with a big smile on my face. I guess I should not tell her that my oldest is 35 this year, huh? I love the looks on people's faces when I tell them that--not that I get it that often anymore. Ok, I am not quite old enough to be A & B' s real mamma, but they were so young when I took over, it seems so. I appreciate that they treat me as a mom, even though I didn't do much right way back then--a lot of things terribly wrong as well.
Wouldn't this world be so much better if we all concentrated on doing a better job of parenting than our parents did? That's my goal, and I fully expect that my children will do a better job than I did. Keep the momentum going.
God was gracious to give me another chance to do better with H & E. Thanks Papa.
On this Mother's day I thank God for the chance to raise four wonderful human beings, watch them grow, make mistakes, follow His leading, be blessed with wonderful spouses, and generally be awesome people.
