18 Til I Die
This is the title of Eli's newest song--shall we say obsession? We shall. Eli is the kind of person who likes to listen to one song until he knows it thoroughly. This usually takes ten thousand or so repetitions. Now, I don't know who sang this song, nor (bad mommy) do I know all the lyrics, although I should, I hear the thing every time I go by his room. I am curious. What causes this type of behavior? I mean, doesn't the regular Joe Schmo listen to the entire recording, be it CD, album or tape (dating myself a bit there)? Now that I think of it, my parents used to be subjected to my 45s over and over and over. They probably heard BTOs "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet" one time (or 1000 times) more than they cared to. Maybe we are such creatures of habit, the comfort of hearing the same thing repeatedly actually keeps us sane. Maybe that's why he waits until I tell him three times before he does anything. So, Here's my observation: Be good to your children, let them listen to their songs over and over and to you repeating yourself. You will go crazy, but they will not. Pretty good trade-off.
