Curious

Was watching the news this morning and there was this lady on there complaining about how bad Curious George books are. That they promote bad parenting (!) and animal cruelty. She was saying how terrible it was that the author showed the Man in the Yellow Hat actually catching George in the wild and bringing him to a zoo. And (the worst part) leaving George alone to wander around, finally finding the ether bottle in the hospital and giving it a sniff. Maybe she should have been worried about the author promoting drug abuse as well.
Well, I just don't know where to start here! First of all, hello lady! George is a character in a book! Not a real monkey! Good grief. And I don't know about you, but when I have parenting questions, The Man in the Yellow Hat is not someone I go to for advice. Because SOMEONE MADE IT UP!!! IT'S NOT TRUE! Maybe we should look at Eric Carle books, because you know that Very Hungry Caterpillar really is overeating. Maybe that's why all our kids are fat--not the video games and TV after all. So parents, stop reading books to your children. they are bad bad bad. Think of all the detrimental things we experienced as children. I mean "eenie meenie mienie mo" was racist. I guess we turned out alright. I read Curious George as a child and read it to my children. But I don't feel that it is right to capture monkeys in the wild and bring them to zoos, or to let them wander until they find the ether. Nor do my children. Ease up lady, and concentrate on something that is really bad for our children. Like sliding down a snow-covered hill--hey, you could really get hurt there!

I agree...if this lady had her way, the Grouchy Ladybug would be on Prozac and the Very Busy Spider would be in therapy for being a workaholic. What is this world coming to?
