Storm

Our family had dinner with the Smiths tonight. After dinner we sat on the deck and watched the storm come in. Really reminded me of my grandpa. He loved doing this. We used to watch the storms with my dad when we were little too.
We always tried to see the green in the clouds, if there was going to be hail, and we watched for funnel clouds all over the sky. I remember some doozies of storms when we lived on the farm. Literally being blown over by the wind as we were trying to get the barn closed. We would always go outside after the storm and make leaf boats "sail" down the river that formed in our driveway. We didn't care if we got wet and muddy, much to my mother's chagrin. I still really love to watch a thunderstorm, and hear the thunder and watch the lightning. I even love the goosebumps I get when the lightning hits in the woods behind our house, and the thunder cracks LOUD. I don't care much for getting wet, though, and usually watch from inside the house!

Growing up in ND, I was raised to love all the weather! We raced outside to watch everything for ourselves, taking pictures of clouds, scooping up hail, shoveling out of 9 foot snowdrifts...
I have pictures of funnel clouds in my baby book for goodness sake! My kiddos so far DO NOT share my love for storms..yet.

I love 'em too. Man was it pouring or what? I think it rained a few frogs and locusts over here too. I was listening for the trumpet call thru the sirens! Dangit!

I would absolutely love to be a stormchaser. Unfortunately, I don't live in a very good area of the country for such a hobby.

One of the best storms I remember was a few years ago during finals week. It was the second week of May, everyone had been studying, and all of a sudden this huge storm came in. It was one of those where you had an eery sky, the sun was out, and black clouds were rolling in. It doesn't get much better!

When I was a kid in Chippewa Falls, a buddy and I were on the roof of the house looking for funnel clouds, as we'd heard there were some on my side of town. That was when the straight line winds came and blew me OFF the roof! What a blast!

Yeah like that eerie storm last spiring up at AWANA, that was scary!!! A couple of years ago there was a tornado here in Lake Elmo/Oakdale area and I went over to my parents house, and the WHOLE entire culdisac was filled like a swimming pool with hail, water and trees! It was really scary looking but cool at the same time. I had only once before seen a tornado or funnel clouds!
