This morning I was looking for a weather report on TV. I stopped to listen to Joel Osteen for a few minutes. I don't usually listen to preachers on TV, but this guy had an entire stadium of people listening to him, so I though I would for a little bit. I lasted about 5 minutes before I knew something was wrong, but I gave him another 10 just to make sure. In the few minutes I listened to him, I thought (knew) I was listening to a motivational speaker. I wish I would have counted the number of "we/you/our/us/I" compared to "God/Jesus/Spirit/Worship", because he was way heavy on the personal pronouns. He was all about "we".
We went to the 10:30 service shortly after that, and I heard Larry talk about God, Jesus and Worship more in the first minute of his welcome than in Joel's fifteen minutes of stadium preaching. Thanks Larry. And then Porter's sermon on redemption. Wow. Thanks Porter.
We at FCC are blessed to have leaders who believe in the God of the Bible, worship the living God, and preach the word of God. They are not there to tell all of us that with God's help we can achieve all we want to be, and have all the things we desire. They are there to tell us the truth.

Thank you, Kristi!
Amen and amen Kristi. Thank you Lord for our leaders at fcc who shepherd the flock. May God give them boldness in all truth and may we never tire of holding them up in prayer!
Yikes! the sermon this morning at Reegz's mom's church was 1 Pet 5:1-7 about the Shepherd of the flock, not being greedyor prideful and the call from God to preach His word and tying in how the responsibility the leaders have for the body. I wonder how Joel feels about all that "spiritual edification" of his church.....things that make you go hhmmmmm.
That is so funny we were just talking about our brothers in the Faith who preach and teach all over the world how it is a HUGE discipline to diligently study and prepare and pray for each weeks sermons. To just stop and think how much goes into that, not to mention their families, marriages, travelings, writing books, and not to mention to be accountable for all that you say. God is so great to work His purposes in His chosen vessels! So yes a huge thank you for our Pastors, all of you.
Joel Osteen is an icon with me and my friends. If we ever happen to catch him on TV while we're hanging out, we leave it. It's a combination of hilarity and sadness. Count the number of scripture references he makes. Count the number of times he says "Jesus." You could make it a drinking game and you'd never get drunk.
For my birthday one of those friends ordered a Larry King interview with Osteen from CNN. He'd seen it before and was just incredulous at the guy. It's pretty amazing that he's that off the wall.
Osteen came to the Target Center recently too. He charges $10 and sells out arenas all over the country.
He's very, very sad.
Oh, and that huge church you saw him in...that's the former home of the Houston Rockets. They have 16,000 people at each of their two morning services on Sunday, making them the largest church in America.
I for one dispute their use of the word "church."
