Moving On

Whew! Now that I can read that last blog without crying, it's time to go on. First: some catch-up. Mr. Burton, yes, the Pig Gig, as our oldest son likes to call it, is a word-of-mouth kind of event. We do not send formal invitations. Invite at will, and we hope to see you and your family there. So I guess that is your formal invitation...

I'm sitting here wondering what to blog and it occurs to me it is my birthday today. Oh. "Hey you kids, turn that down!" I am older. I am officially pushing 50--oh wait, not till next year, whew! Still in my mid-forties. Ok, enough. Oh, and I did not tell you that to solicit birthday greetings...but if you must...

Today I will be traveling to the lovely town of Amery, Wisconsin. This is where I was raised, and where my oldest sister still lives. Hannah is in SOS, which is a skit performing company, and will be doing her thing there today. If you ever have a chance to see these people perform, do it. And not just because our daughter is one of the actors. They are really good! They do skits on teen issues such as drunk driving, drug use, and pregnancy. The first time we went to a performance, Hannah played the friend of a girl killed by a drunk driver. Yow. Pretty powerful stuff. Today she will be one of the principal players in a lot of the skits, but the one I appreciate the most is called "Drugs". This skit starts with the main character coming out and telling the audience how the drugs they are taking don't affect their life, and all the time the character (she in this case, cuz Hannah is the main) is talking, other people are tying ropes around their wrists and ankles. Then the "drugs" start to take their toll, and the people pull and jerk the ropes until the main character is flailing about in the air. Packs a punch, that one. The SOS Players perform at schools around the area, throughout the school year. And as an added bonus I get to see my big sis. Sweet.
