Stunned

Wow. That was the general consensus of the teenagers after the skits yesterday. The performance lasted 35 minutes or so and started with some of the people in the audience cutting up and generally being disrespectful, as is the norm in any high school. By the time the SOS Players got done with their skits, which were focused on the meth problem in that area, there was silence. Silence when they walked out as well. They looked like they had shell shock. I looked at the adults and more than one of them was crying. I saw one lady with tears in her eyes and asked Kori if she was a teacher, and Kori said she was the police liasion for the school. She had seen too many meth casualties. Polk Co. is the number one county in WI for meth, so they are fighting it hard in school. I asked Kori if there was a big problem with students using, and she said that it was more often the parents. She said the teachers were shocked at how many parents came to parent-teacher conferences high. People are losing their children at an alarming rate up there. They don't even allow roadside cleanup anymore because of all the meth waste that is dumped in the ditches. Sickening.
I wish I could have stayed and listened to the panel question-and-answer time they had later that evening, to learn more. Y'know you hear this and that about meth and how nasty it is, but I guess I never, in my little drug free cocoon, realized how nasty. Wow.
