Ah Hell

This profound sentence came out of Porter's mouth tonight as he was preaching about hell:

God doesn't send people to hell, He gives them what they want.

I never thought about it that way before, but it's so true. People that are hell-bound choose to be hell-bound. People who are in hell right now chose the behavior and lifestyle that got them there.
oof.

We have talked about the sermon repeatedly since we heard it. "The doors of hell are locked from the inside." (CS Lewis via Tim Porter) If this sermon was so powerful on those of us who believe, then I pray that it would work in the minds of those who don't so that God has a chance to work in their hearts.

Very powerful sermon. I love the clarity that Porter gives. I echo Kathleen's thoughts, too. Was praying specifically for someone in that category who was there that night listening. Praying they would receive that message.

I thought it was interesting, too, that in the story Porter was telling about The Rich Man, never did he ask to be let out of hell. It just goes to show that he IS there of his own choices.
