The quilt retreat was fun as usual! I had picked out a project that would use the black/white and red fabric that I bought years ago. It's been sitting in my stash for a long time waiting for the right pattern. The one I found was a Bargello pattern. Bargello, for those of you who don't know is little pieces in a stair step pattern. A LOT of little pieces.
A little history if you don't mind...
For my very first quilt retreat I signed up for a Bargello class. Keep in mind that I had never touched a sewing machine short of home ec. class in 8th grade. And that turned out pitiful.
I told the instructor I was there for her class and she asked me how much experience I had in the sewing area. You should have seen the look on her face at the answer. Pure panic.
Now I had no idea that Bargello was so intricate, and that it is definitely not for a beginner. I just liked the look of their finished product.
Well, that quilt retreat I ended up doing a log cabin pattern, which was very easy and perfect for my experience level at the time; naht and nada.
Now that I have kind of "made my bones" in the quilting arena, I thought I'd try the Bargello.
Little did I realize that talking and putting these squares together does not mix. Well, I chatted and laughed while making ONE HUNDRED squares.
When I started pressing them I realized that they were ALL wrong. Every pickin' one. Did I mention there were one hundred of them? Oh my goodness.
We had a little "un-sewing" party, Marjie, Toni and Linda joined in with me, ripping away. We un-sewed, and I ended up with 80 squares. Enough for a smaller quilt.
Sewn with love (and a little swearing).
Twice.
To give you an idea of how much I sewed, I used up an entire spool of thread and part of another. Know how much thread is on those suckers? Youch.
I have a couple of borders to put on, and the top will be done. As soon as I am done, I will put a pix on here for all y'all.

I'm glad you're back! Sorry about the difficulties that so bursts your bubble, huh? Congratulations for stickin' in there and redoing. Can't wait to see the pictures. Sounds cool.
Did I mention I'm glad you're back?
I'm afraid that's why I don't quilt...or sew. I rip far more than I sew.
I'm glad you had the girls join in and give you a hand. And that you stuck it out. Can't wait to see it.
Glad you're home.
Man...I was typing this at the same time as Katie...could she and I be related?
If you take the "e" of the end of my name, it could be.
I'm with Kelli.
Same reason I don't iron. I put more wrinkles in than I iron out.
Get over here and pick me up.
I didn't think you swore THAT much...although, I was probably sleeping for the worst of it.
Thanks for helping me and teaching me. I even know the right thing to say when I do it wrong now! I had a great time with you guys. Remember that comment I made about the cult? Well your brainwashing must have worked, because on the way home I was thinking about what quilt I would try to do next. Log Cabin you say???
Wow - good for you, Kristi! A little swearing will just add more character to the quilt. ;-) Can't wait to see the finished product...
Ha! I knew we'd win you over Kathaleend. Now all we have to do is get you to start a blog...
Looking forward to seeing the quilt. I am on the same page as Kelli....I am sure I would spend 90% of my time ripping. Then a dog would crap or a cat would barf on my finished product.
