And Yes Ladies and Gentlemen, the Hannah stories continue. I was reading Brillig last night and she was telling the story of her little Scooby's birth-- which of course brought back memories of my girlchick.
I had worked at the hospital in the OB department for 8 years prior to Hannah's birth, so I kinda knew what I was getting into, but--well ok, not really. Having attended at many many births while I was working, I still had little patience for the screaming women. Until I gave birth. Oof. I still don't like my ladies to scream, it's just such a waste of good energy, but at least I have some sympathy...
We waited 8 years to get pregnant--God's timing was right as usual, and when we found out, I told everyone--no waiting for this mamma.
Hannah was 18--yes eighteen--days overdue. I'll do the math for you, that's almost three weeks. I was getting a little impatient for our cherub as you can imagine, but not really horribly uncomfortable--that I remember, I could have forgotten that little tidbit... So on the 19th day they induced labor and off we went. 12 hours later, the most beautiful girl--ok, I am a little biased--was born. Now keep in mind that I had seen hundreds of babies in my tenure at the hospital, and I have to tell you, she was beautiful. 6# 12oz. and 19". She had a beautymark on her temple and her skin was a lovely olive color. She was born so fast that she didn't have much of that cone-head thing either. I was smitten as you can imagine. Kelli was her auntie-nanny, held her all the time and was at our house for hours on end taking care of me and Hannah, that's why she is having a hard time with this graduation thing too--she feels as if her daughter is going off on her own.
Well, she was the baby everyone dreams of having. And the toddler everyone dreams of having. Y'know when a child gets quiet and you wonder what they're up to? Hannah did that time and again, and usually I would find that she put herself to bed for a nap. I KNOW, RIGHT?
I do have some regrets however. I wish I would have played outside more (I'm not much for outside stuff), I wish I would have taught her to cook and clean (I know how, I just don't like to!), and I wish I would have taken her on more dates (still time for that).
I will enjoy watching where she goes from here, and thank God for our wonderful baby girl.

Awww....
I can't imagine being 3 weeks overdue. Both my kids came 4 weeks early!
My first baby was 19 days overdue too! CRAZY!!!
I have never been a screamer. I still don't get why women scream... Like you said, it seems to be a waste of precious energy! Oh well...
And, by the way, I LOVED your story! So glad I inspired you to pen yours!!!
Sweet baby Hannah! Love the story!
What a dolly!
I was late for my mom by 13 days, in Iowa during August, in the middle of a heat wave. She tells me about it EVERY year on my birthday. :)
Thanks Mom!
Ok, on the second box of Kleenexes now.
I was thinking, after having my picture taken with her in her cap and gown, of the picture I have of the two of us on my wedding day. She was only 13 months old, in that pink ruffly dress, me squeezing her up. Now, here she is, this grown-up beautiful girl, ready to make her own way in the world.
Part of me aches for the little snuggler that used to fall asleep on my tummy while I rubbed the side of her nose, the other part just can't wait to see what God has in store for her.
To have been a part of her life this far has been a privilege. A gift. A blessing.
I'm honored and grateful.
Thank you, God, for this wonderful person.
mmmm... what a wonderful post.
