A Tip

When Brandy worked as a waitress (I know the pc term now is waitstaff, but that sounds dumb)
I made this rule:

Kristi Rule #12
Tip your waiter/waitress $1 more than you think you should.
Don't be cheap. Even if he/she is having a bad day, and is not up to your standards, unless he/she is downright rude, tip more than the standard 10 or 15%.
Hannah and I ate at a restaurant in Rochester one time. The people at the next table were fussing about the tip the restaurant had added to their bill. They had more than 6 in their party and the 15% tip was added automatically. When I saw them at the table with their tip estimator, I knew it was going to be something to watch. They finally got up to the cash register, and complained to the manager that the tip was excessive. The manager, not wanting to be too disruptive, kindly asked what had been the problem. The man said that they had added too much for the tip . He was really nasty, asking what kind of place they were running here, etc. So the manager took the "excessive" amount off their bill. Know how much it was? Fifty cents. Good grief, if I am ever that much of a butt, someone slap me.

I did stiff a waitress once, but she called me the B word, so she earned it.

I'm probably too generous. But whatever, I feel for them... Does anyone else find 25% (assuming they refill my beverage!) too high?

Not at all!
Especially if the server is good at their job.

Actually, the proper term is "server". And I tip big. I have, however, been known to not tip at all, and explain to the server and the managment exactly why I am not tipping them. Long story, very extreme circumstance.

I don't like to tip, but I do. I once was a cook who made the awesome food and the servers got all the credit for the great meal. Where were my tips? Did the servers share? If I made a junky meal they didn't get a tip and came screaming to me.

You're right, Pat that is not fair. Cooks should get part of the tip, or get paid more.
