The terms "Johnnosermobile", and "Noserize" were coined because of our eclectic, well, fleet of cars. John and I have been together for 25 years, and would be hard-pressed to list all the cars we have owned in that time. As a matter of fact, we tried it once, years ago. I don't know if we remembered them all, but we were up into the thirties when we stopped counting. No, we don't buy lots of cars just to buy them. In fact, a lot of our cars we didn't even have to buy, God just gave them to us. We have had everything from Cadillacs (don't get excited, it had 4 different colors--one for each door, and the muffler was positioned so high, the back seat started on fire) to Fords. Hondas, Nissans, we've been through pretty much the entire lot. We are also known for driving said cars into the dust. More than once a car has blown up on the way to the junkyard--a couple of months ago in fact. John will squeeze every last bit of life from any car he owns. Why get rid of it if it still runs?
One of our favorites was a huge Ford station wagon. When you shut the key off, it made the most wierd "takungggg" noise. Sometimes we'd start it and shut it off just for a laugh. We put a twin bed mattress in the back when we went on car trips. So much fun. A&B loved it.
One of my all time favorite jobs involved driving cars to and from sale sites. We would put in a 10-14 hour day just driving cars to the site, jump in a van for the ride back to the dealer, grab another car and go again. I absolutely love to drive, and some of these cars I will never own, no matter how old they get, so hey--two great things in one package.
We will probably never drive anything new, or really expensive, and that's ok with me. God gives us what we should have, and is so good to us, who can ask for more?

If you think back to the cars we owned when we were young, I think you and John were a match made in heaven...or the parts lot, whichever!
Remember the Four-Tone? Hahahahaha
You got that right. You know what he loved right off the bat? The first time we went out on a real date, I asked to borrow a spark plug socket cuz I had one plug that fouled all the time and I had to clean it before I started the drive home. Whatta woman!
Here's a tip for you younger peeps out there: Drive junk, then you learn how to fix your own car.
Glory to God for giving us exactly what we need huh? He provides every single time! I love it. you were like the "Jo" of Facts of Life. Did you also ride a motorcycle? Come on 'fess up.
Nope, but she was my favorite. She was as sassy as I always dreamed I could be. And now I am...
my family had a station wagon "volaree" I don't even know how to spell it but it was a most beautiful shade of elephant gray and lipstick red leather inside it was the best though all of us packed up together doin family fun stuff. I can still kinda smell the smell, kinda like the pregnate smelly thing with out the baby!!
Volare........wasn't there a song to go with it? Sweet wheels, Cbass.
Did it say "honkey lips" anywhere on it?
Hey Sara, did it have Fine Corrrinthian Leather?
Did it have a trailer hitch you could hook....say, a dog up to?
WAGON QUEEN FAMILY TRUCKSTER!!!!
I learned to drive on a full size van. Then we got an extended van. Just imagine taking a month-long vacation to Alaska that included 5 overnight drives with 10 kids, the youngest of whom is 5 months old, and three car top carriers (with stories of mishaps that I'll save for another day).
Anyone up for it?
Joey--you and I have too many experiences that are alike. I had a Ford Econoline van in high school. Too much fun. I would love to hear all about your family trips. Comment Fodder! Blog all about it!
Hey, I took lots of trips in the "southbound vacation van" cb on channel "breaker, breaker 1 9." Now to Alaska sounds a little insane but how about to Florida and back? Great travel stories! My dad was the type who had to stop at the largest ball of twine and all the other great sites on the way. Some of my greatest memories are road trips with the fam!
Try a different KOA campground everynight on the way to Washington D.C. by way of Florida! Yegads, we have campin stories to tell, people!
totally KOA from Minnesota straight down south to Arkansa, or was it FL to Arkansa? campers, and yes reegz we "CAMPED" all the time when we were growing up. South Dakota, out east My grandpa and grandma had the best campers and every couple of years they'd upgrade like first it was pop-ups with just mattresses and then finally we got to the deluxe double sider mini kitchen and plastic chair for a pot. those were the best memories as a child...now today that's a different story.
My family finally bought an RV last year. I guess the Alaska trip will be the last all-out camping trip. We had two tents on that trip, but my mom still slept in the van with kids for fear of grizzly bears.
There were all sorts of mishaps on the Alaska trip. One - and this probably wasn't that bad in light of others - was a late-night venture in SE Alaska. We'd just taken a ferry through Prince William Sound from Seward to Valdez. It was a 12-hour ride that got started a few hours late. We actually passed right over the site of the Valdez oil spill.
We arrived in Valdez at around 2 AM. We got off the ferry and then had to find a campground. After driving for, oh 45 minutes or so, we found a place. It was also raining at this point. So, now it's 3 to 3:30 AM, 55 degrees or so, and it's raining, and most of the kids are sleeping.
And it's stories like that that keep us camping....
