Insurance Class

It's that time of the year again. Time to start thinking about completing my continuing education to keep my insurance licenses. This is something I put off until the last possible minute. Unfortunately, time-wise, because I'll have to be in class 24 hours in the next few months. Every year I tell myself I'll do it earlier in the year next time, but you know how time flies on by. The classes aren't dull and boring, Wisconsin hires some instructors that are pretty fun, and really know their stuff. And the stories. Oh, how I love the stories. My favorite class has got to be auto and home. You really hear some good stuff in those classes. Some really weird things happen to people. The guy that was fixing his lawnmower in the basement, started it on fire and burned his house down. Did he tell the insurance company he did it? Of course he did. Was he covered? Yes. Now if anyone but he or his wife had done it, he wouldn't have been, according to the instructor, but he was. Crazy huh?
But the all time weirdest happened while I was still working in the insurance business. A lady called the company to ask if she was covered because a skunk had sprayed in their garage. I wish she would have called me or the agent first, because we would have told her no, and saved her a lot of trouble. But she called the company. Not her smartest choice. They told her no, she lost her temper and told them she should have burned the house down in the first place. Can you guess how long she had her coverage after that call? Not long. They canceled her policy immediately. Really unfortunate for her, because getting insurance after a cancellation like that is difficult and expensive. So in the interest of caring for my friends, here is some inside info: When faced with the choice of hitting a deer, or going in the ditch and hitting a tree, go for the deer. Animal hits are a comprehensive claim and do not go on your driving record (unless the rules have changed). When you may have a claim, but you're really not sure, call your agent first. He/She will let you know if you are covered, and if the claim is below your deductible. If you call the Co. and the claim is below the deductible, you will not be able to get money for the claim, but the claim will go on your record anyway. I know, sick.

I used to take those CE classes and I always waited until that last minute too. Then I had to keep up on my securities licenses as well.

Did you ever have an instructor named Ron - he was hilarious?

I know I kinda missed the point of your post.

Are you like a for real live certified insurance agent or something? I totally feel your pain Kristi, I HAVE to take those in-service classes too, for my license for the state. I too put them off until like Nov. of each year like right before my licensor comes...in my defense though I can't stand all that psycho-babble new age ways of teaching kids how to be "the best they can be" at age FOUR!!! so good luck and press on.
