Spell your name
I have had to spell my name my whole life. Every time. Invaribly when I say "Kristi", people will write down Ch... No, I say, "K-r-i-s-t-i". So they write Kristy. No, "i", I say. Now I think it was really ingenious for my parents to think up such a name-scheme for their children. Good thing they didn't have any boys. How many boy names can you think of that start with K and end with I? But, I urge you parents, give your children names that everyone knows how to spell. Give them an easy name life. This is one huge reason we gave our children well known Bible names. Easy to spell, hard to shorten for a nickname (don't get me started on how much I hate being called Chris, or Kris). So imagine my shock when at the Dr. one day I hear the nurse call "Ellie Noser". WHAT? It's "Eli", I say. Here we go again.

And there is the look out for future teasing by peers. Especially the ryhming teasing thing. For example, Pat..Fat...loves his cat...doesn't own a nice winter hat.
Wait...is it really teasing when everything said is true? Uhhmmm.
Initials can be a bugger too.
Pat and I considered the name Aaron Sean..but only for a minute.
OK, try being my size, with my name. Everyone thinks that I'm either a cheerleader or a porn star...until they meet me, and then all bets are off, baby.
It really does bite to have the "creative spelling" - remember when it was a big deal to have personalized stuff? Not happenin' for this chick - or for my sisters. This obviously wounded me in my youth, or I wouldn't remember it...
Oh, but you have never lived until one of your co-workers comes up with this one: "Kelli, Kelli with the buckskin belly!" Oh yeah...20 years old and saddled with THAT! Unfortunately it has evolved with time. "Kelli Belly" for those short on time, "Kelli Jelly Belly" for those with a sweet tooth. Ah, if our parents could have seen into the future...
How bout Whiskey Hoser? Everyone thought they were sooo creative and original with that one. But on an affectionate note, Paul's mockery of my name in middle school was one of the ways we bonded. :)
